Program overview
Building on the success of our previous editions in Amsterdam, the 4th Annual Conference on Foundation Decarbonization and Re-use is moving to Germany’s premier waterfront metropolis: Hamburg!
As the construction sector accelerates its drive toward net-zero, our profession must take proactive steps to minimize its ecological footprint. Known for its challenging soft-soil conditions, massive urban waterfront renewals (such as HafenCity), and historic mastery of deep-pile engineering, Hamburg serves as the ultimate living laboratory for the future of foundation reuse.
Join international geotechnical engineers, structural designers, researchers, students, port and infrastructure operators, representatives of public authorities, and asset owners as we unlock advanced technical solutions, share case studies, and network in the heart of Europe’s leading sustainability hub.
The conference will open with two days of presentations, arranged in 4 half-day sessions:
Session 1: The Decision-Making & Circular Economy Process
Session 2: Advanced Inspection, Testing, and Suitability Assessment
Session 3: Sustainable Design & Optimization Methodologies
Session 4: Construction Phase, Execution, and Monitoring
Each session will be opened by a keynote speaker and closed by an extended Q&A period, where all the speakers in that session will not only answer questions from the attendees, but also respond to what was presented in the session by other speakers.
During the coffee and lunch breaks there will be ample opportunity to network with other attendees as well as visit with the exhibitors.
During the conference opening night all attendees are invited to join for dinner at the Museum ship Rickmer Rickmers. This is a ship built in 1896 and has been Hamburg’s floating landmark since 1983.
The last day of the conference will be spent visiting sites in and around Hamburg, where foundation reuse has been or is being applied. A prime example of this is the Elbphilharmonie, a concert hall that is visible in the background of the picture above.
A more detailed program will be available on this page in due course, but this should give a good impression of what to expect when attending the conference.
